Alternative construction for Music Roll
Hook
I was concerned about ripping the hook off the end of the music roll when
the end of the roll was reached during rewinding, so I considered an alternative
that would automatically release the hook when it reached the end of the
rewind.
I made an extra take-up spool end while I was making the take-up spool assembly,
and sanded a shallow flat onto the outside diameter. I then drilled a 0.125
inch diameter hole at about 10 degrees from vertical. I pressed in a 0.125
inch diameter brass rod so that it was within the outside diameter of the
take-up spool. I fitted this hook assembly into the middle of the take-up
spool so that the brass rod lined up with the center of the 5/8 inch diameter
drilled into the middle of the take-up spool.
The brass rod hooks the end of the music roll and, when rewinding, releases
the hook automatically.
See the figure attached for clarification.
