Pressure Box Locking Mechanism
I decided that I wanted as clean an outline as possible on the top of the
busker organ, as this is the part of the organ that the grinder sees most.
Accordingly, I modified the pressure box lock so that it is operated from
the (crankshaft) side of the organ.
The actuating rod (8) is silver steel (a piece of the rod to be used as the
chisel in the paper punch machine) and the spring (7) and split pin (5) are
readily obtained from your nearest car accessory shop. The spring retaining
collar (6) is any convenient piece of tube, drilled to size to be a sliding
fit on the rod. The knob (9) came from the local curtain shop. The depression
in the end of the pressure box is reinforced by a piece of thin brass sheet
(2) to reduce the effect of wear.
When the brass rod support (3) has been attached to the bottom part of the
pressure box, the hole in the brass sheet screwed to the top of the pressure
box (1) can be drilled, as the top is held in the air-tight position and
the seal (4) is compressed.
