John Smith 26-note Universal with animated guardsman "choir". It has 2 Ranks of melody pipes, a third rank is used to air-power (via 13 airbags) the popping heads of the choir, plus space to add a third rank of melody pipes. The guardsmen are painted with differences in detailing to represent the five regiments of the King’s life guard, with HRH King Charles in the centre position. The guardsmen are individually linked to different melody pipe inputs, and can be switched on & off as a group. The Union Flag on the front is entirely hand painted. The rewind mechanism has been changed to use hand-cut wooden gears (approx 2.3:1 ratio) to ensure reliability whilst busking. Includes 6 rolls of Melvyn Wright music, and a detachable trolley with pneumatic tyres & plenty of storage space. The trolley also features a London skyline silhouette, as I used to busk with it in London’s Covent Garden. I originally purchased the organ from the late John Smith (though it was NOT built by him) in 2014, then I restored it to working condition, repainted and designed & built the choir. Size: 60cm wide, 85cm high, 55cm deep including crank handle (24" x 33" x 22"). The 90cm (35") wide trolley adds 40cm (16") to the height. The organ is currently located in Central France - I’d be more than happy to help with shipping arrangements, buyer collection or potentially bringing it over to the UK. This is not the busker organ, the rolls are the same as the Raffin (110mm). It comes on a detachable silver cross chassis and 40 rolls of good music. It has 2 ranks of pipes and a lot of animation. Dog wags its tail, cat moves its head, Mice come out of the cheese, figures both have moving heads and one rings a bell, the other moves the baton. | For Sale: A very cool Organ. The baffles are missing. I know little about this piece so I do not know what it take to get it going. My initial intention was to clean it up and put a CD player inside (with a speaker and a CD of organ music) and have the on switch on a timer, activated by the turn crank. This was going to be placed outside a store front (coffee shop). Thanks to the 2020C word the coffee shop is out of business. So now it sits gathering dust. This Organ is extremely well built and very heavy. The back wheels are steel wrapped with wood spokes. The front wheels are steel with steel spokes. The cart sits on heavy duty leaf springs. Although very heavy the cart is very agile and easy to maneuver. It has cobwebs and dust from sitting in my garage. The brass is also getting oxidized. The brass will clean up with some elbow grease and the brass tubes also will clean up to a nice shine. Feel free to ask questions. This would have to be a local pick up due to it’s weight or I will work with your freight company to ship at your expense. |

De Cherub's main body was made by the famous organ builder, John smith to a very high standard, being polished mahogany veneered and with brass trimmings. it measures 21" deep x 40" long x 46" tall. The front was designed, made and hand painted made by the famous fairground artist Terry Darby. The Conductor figure is not animated but was hand carved by John Selwood a famous wood carver. The bespoke authentic Dutch hand cart was made by Dennis Dean, and has a pull-out draw with room for 18 rolls of music. I wondered whether anybody knows who now owns the three wooden figures that once belonged to the 89-key Gavioli known as "The Lakelander" which often attended events in the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s. This consists of a total of 79 pipes being :- 24 stopped bourdon melody pipes in two rows of 12. 24 violin melody pipes in two rows of 12, but set six either side of the main flutes. All the melody pipes are tuned Celeste to give the organ a mellow Dutch sound. Set behind the main rank of pipes are eight accompaniment pipes, five bass pipes and five 4' bass helpers. To the top right are set eight cello pipes. Behind the bass drum and cello pipes are set the five 16' bass helpers. These are the only pipes not visible. To give more variety the organ also has a Glockenspiel, side drum, bass drum and cymbal. MIDI system with loads of tunes on over 75 floppies. | For Sale: 47-key Marenghi/Gaudin (Ideal Orchestre). This instrument is of typical Marenghi manufacture. Ch. Marenghi died in 1919 and Gaudin continued running the company and had bought it by the end of 1920 so we think it is fare to say that organ numbers starting with 25- - may well still be within Marenghi’s time. Gaudin had very different ideas on chest design and this instrument is typical of Marenghi manufacture. Not only is the instrument a fine original example but there is also a vast repertoire of original Marenghi factory music still with their Marenghi labels and in good condition. It was purchased January 11th 2017 by Stuart Dobbs (organ builder) and has now been housed in a purpose built display trailer so the facade can be left fully assembled. In a copy of the Marenghi catalogue there is listed a 47-key Ideal Orchestre instrument which is the same but with a different facade. This instrument is written down as replacing 5 musicians. The reservoir cloth is good so the corners have just been re-inforced with new cloth, the leather flap-valves underneath have been replaced so it plays very well, a rare model hence the price. This was the first model made in Ithaca, New York, USA in 1885, part of a life-time of collecting these interesting Cob Organs. This is a 20-note pressure-operated model complete. One leg is a very well professionally-made replacement, but the instrument is in need of full pneumatic restoration and does not make much sound at the moment.
