Suggested Installation for my Music Roll Editor
===============================================

The program may have been sent to you as a .abc file rather than a .exe file. This is because some 'Nanny' ISPs do not allow you to receive .exe files as email attachments, even if contained in a .zip file. If this is the case, simply change the file type from .abc to .exe (ie rename MusicRollEditor.abc to MusicRollEditor.exe).

The complete software package consists of the main Editor program (MusicRollEditor.exe), this README.TXT file, and some example scale files (.cfg). (The scale files may have been sent to you in a .zip file.)

The program does not need to be installed. It is simply run by double-clicking on the MusicRollEditor.exe file, but if you are going to use it seriously I would suggest you do the following first:

Create a new folder called Music (or something similar). Unzip the attached file(s) and move all the files into the folder.

If you are only writing music for one organ, this should be sufficient. If not, create individual sub-folders to store the music for each scale you do (31Raffin, 48Keyless, etc), and another sub-folder called Scales. The Scales folder is for storing all your different organ scales. If required, create a sub folder in the Scales folder for Conversion Scales.

Double-click on the MusicRollEditor.exe program to run it. When the program is run, it will create additional files: Config.exe, DemoMusic.mus, EditorHelp.chm, InitialScale.cfg, Import1to64.cfg, and InstructionManual.pdf.

You can create a Desktop shortcut to the Music Roll Editor in the usual way, by right-clicking on the MusicRollEditor.exe file and selecting 'Create Shortcut' or 'Send to Desktop'.

You can also arrange for the program to run automatically when a music file is clicked. Do this by double-clicking on ANY .mus file, and a box should appear asking you which program you would like to associate with that file. Select the MusicRollEditor.exe file and press OK. Now, whenever you double-click on any music file it will automatically run the Editor program and load in the music.

When the Music Roll Editor starts up, Press f1 for the Help Screen.

Virus Warnings!
===============

You may or may not get a virus warning and all sorts of other warnings of doom from your anti-virus program. I can guarantee that there are no viruses, spyware, malware, or other harmful effects in my program, and it does not even access the Internet or install itself in your computer. (The only thing that accesses the Internet is the Help Reader, and that is a Microsoft program!) Viruses are written by anonymous people, not by somebody who puts their name to a program! If you do get such a warning, it is simply because your anti-virus program does not recognise my program (hardly surprising really!). It is quite common for anti-virus programs to assume that all unknown programs are harmful, just in case they are. Most anti-virus programs have a facility whereby you can tell them to ignore a trusted program.
