Bellows Linkage
I made the bellows linkage from 1/2" square section tube from B&Q, cut to the dimensions shown in the sketch.

Any size bolt around 6mm can be used with a locknut attached.  It is best to drill the hole for the bolt before cutting the steel.  Leave a 4mm ridge on the bellows end to strengthen the fixture.  The con rods can be made a little bigger to allow for the bolt.

Spool Fixing
A Meccano Bush Wheel is ideal for fixing the take-up spool, and the spool wheel, on the shaft.  Drill the boss out very carefully to 6mm.
