Manuals
1958-61
(Later Manuals)
At the start of the light red and green period, the manuals and models were unchanged from previous years. The only difference in the manuals was the colour of the Pulleys and Road Wheels on the back cover, and the removal of the words "Instructions for" on the front cover (see below). Brighter shades of yellow and blue ink were used on the covers.
| Comparison of front covers from the medium red/green and light red/green periods |
| The yellow dragline manual cover was used for all outfits from
1 to 9. A rather ambitious model for the owner of a No.1 outfit! The
colour of the Wheel Flange on the rear wheel of the Loading Shovel remained
in red throughout the entire period, even though it was actually changed
to blue in 1960. Neither was the tinplate Road Wheel retouched
to plastic in 1961.
During this period, almost every set and accessory set had its own individual manual. The main set manuals contained a selection of models from the smaller outfits as well as the models for that particular set. The accessory manuals contained just the models for the next set up. |
The manuals for the smallest outfits took the form of a simple leaflet with paper covers. These are the manuals for outfits No. 00 and 0. |
| An example of the style of building instructions in these manuals. This is the famous Railway Service Crane shown on the back of all the manual covers (see above). Compare this style with the exploded view manuals of 1962. | |
| The model leaflets for outfit 10 were contained in a special wallet. Outfit 10 also contained the manuals for outfits 6, 7, 8, and 9. (The 6 manual contained a selection of models from outfits 00 to 5.) Print Refs. | The cover of the manual whch was used for all except the smallest accessory sets, up until the introduction of the new manuals in 1962. |
