Private message for Steam Fair
organisers:
Entries for 2013 are now being accepted - please
email your
details
(If you are not an organiser, you must not read the above
private message. If you have accidentally read it, please report to
the local police station immediately and tell them what you've
done)
Here is a list of forthcoming events where organs may be playing, and traction engines may be driving round and round a muddy field in circles. There may also be other attractive attractions like barn engines pumping water from one bucket into another (with flowers painted on them), old-fashioned lorries and cars parked in a field, and rusty old iron and scrap motor parts for sale.
Despite my humourous approach (or because of it) this is the best rally guide on the Net, this side of Christmas. See below for how good it is. Forget the other boring stuffy old guides (if there are any) this site gets more hits than the Top Ten Singles Charts (which is not difficult) and is updated in a rippling and vigorous fashion. If you want your event listing in steamfair.co.uk just email me. I also provide free links to your web site and email address (I know, it's unbelievable) and what's more - I do not charge anything for these free links. Please mention if your event has a chip van. Events with chip vans are given priority listings in bold red letters to ensure maximum publicity for your event and to maximise your chip van investment. As can be appreciated, a steam fair without a chip van is like a monkey without a hat (or even worse). Please do not pretend that your event has a chip van if it hasn't. Chip van fraud is a very serious crime and will be reported to a policeman with big boots.
This information is provided in good faith - but I can't help it if events take place on the wrong date or were never even planned in the first place. Before travelling to any event, please look out of the window to check whether it is raining or not. If you are driving on the roads, please look out of the front window and try not to bump into traction engines, or get run over by steam rollers. Take some money with you to get in, in case you can't find a gap in the hedge. If travelling overseas, make sure you take a boat or a plane with you. On arrival make sure you find out where the chip van is, in case of emergency, and if you can't find a chip van complain to the organisers and ask for your money back. Remember to go home again when the event has finished.

These chips are the kind of wholesome and delicious chips which can be bought at all good steam fairs with chip vans (while stocks last). |
Important: Whenever possible, please support events with chip vans as these have been specially provided by the organisers for your entertainment and pleasure. Do not drink beer at steam fairs, otherwise you will be asked to leave, and escorted from the field. For safety's sake, do not attend steam fairs with beer tents, in case people are p*ssed-up and driving steam rollers. I cannot stress this too highly (even though I have tried on numerous occasions).
Before setting off for an event, always check
the calender on the wall. If you subtract the date on the calendar
from the date of the event, and get a minus number - this means that you've
missed it.
(Minus numbers are those with a hyphen on the left-hand
side)
Congratulations
UPDATED for
2010
The prize for the longest rally title (sponsored by Steamfair.co.uk) was won in 2010 by Bournemouth & Poole Preservation Club, with their entry: "Bournemouth And Poole Preservation Club Ltd. Vintage And Classic Vehicle Annual Road Run Starting From Hamworthy Social Club Driving Around Hants And Dorset On A Route For Approximately 65 Miles With A Coffee Stop Half Way At Compton Abbas Airfield And Assembling Again At Honeybrook Farm Near Wimbourne For Late Lunch Presentations And A Raffle." see full results tables for the first 14 years (blimey is it that long since I've been cobbling this site together?)
As there were no entries for the 2011and 2012 competitions, I have decided that there will be no winners
In order to save wear and tear on my fingers (caused by typing the same headings over and over and over again) the following abbreviations are used in this list:
| & | And | Ga | Gala | Rd | Ribbed | TER | Traction Engine Rally |
| A | Annual | Gg | Gathering | R | Rally | The | The |
| C | Country | Gr | Organ Grind | S | Steam | Trans | Transport |
| E | Engine | H | Historic | SER | Steam Engine Rally | V | Vintage |
| Ex | Extravaganza | I | International | Sh | Show | Ve | Vehicle |
| F | Fair / Fayre | M | Molecule | Soc | Society | W | Weekend |
| Fes | Festival | N | Nudist | Sp | Spectacular | Wg | Working |
| G | Globular | O | Organ | St | Street | space for expansion |
Hint: If you are interested in organs (and who isn't?) then just look
for abbreviations with an O in them.
(Further information about abbreviations can be found at the back of most
dictionaries)
Although it's difficult to believe, some dumbos who email me actually think that I organise every one of these 500+ events myself; even though the organisers are often named below, up to 20 events can take place on the same day, and the words "Annual Guide to UK Steam Fairs" appears at the top of the page in letters 3 feet tall. I suppose these same people think that I'm also responsible for the FA Cup Final, and the Miss World competition. If you have an IQ of less than minus 12, and you wish to exhibit at a steam fair, please don't ask me if you can come to any of my events or whether I can send details of all of my steam fairs. If you contact the organiser of the event directly, you are less likely to get a reply with rude words in it.
